The Wilsonton Ag Centre is a unique Agricultural facility, catering for the practical elements of the four State High schools that deliver Agriculture as subjects in Toowoomba. We also cater for day and semester units for the Primary schools of Toowoomba. We have industry partnerships with many and varied businesses in Toowoomba and the Darling Downs, and these ties are strengthening each year.

We are extremely well supported at the Ag Centre with agribusiness partnerships. The Centre has a cattle showing team. We are supported by seed companies, and agronomists, who freely give their time to present to students the current issues in their industries. We are working with feedlots and livestock agents to allow students access to industry situations.

Students from Wilsonton State High start their agricultural studies in Year 7 with a Paddock to Plate program, where students have an agricultural section and a food preparation aspect to their studies.  As students progress through their secondary studies, they are exposed to all aspects of Agriculture and their practical work takes on more high risk activities as their maturity and competency grows. Our engineering and motor mechanics programs cater for many students who go on to work outside the primary agricultural businesses.

  • Students design, build, and sell many interesting pieces of equipment, from mud brick pizza ovens, sheep panels, cattle panels,
  • Our feedlot lambs, point of lay chickens, pigs, eggs, herbs and vegetables and honey is snapped up by staff and students.
  • The centre has drones that allow students to see where this technology is heading
  • Our investment in free flow hives have enabled us to take beekeeping to a new level in schools. We are able to secure the bees and take them into the classrooms for students to see these amazing creatures work.

We have had a number of students that have gone on to have great careers in agriculture. The students who are involved in extracurricular activities, in particular, the cattle showing team develop many great skills that come out of working and competing on the show circuit. Young men and women transform their lives as they gain confidence in being part of a successful team.
